This playlist begins from the dance floor, from bodies moving together in low light, from sound that carries us before we know where we are going. For my curatorial collective, Collective Çukurcuma, music has never been background. It is a way of thinking, a way of gathering, a way of staying with one another without needing to speak in full sentences.
Rave culture, especially as it emerges through underground, diasporic, and improvised spaces, has offered us a language of survival and refusal. These tracks hold fragments of nights that blur into mornings, of repetition that becomes ritual, of basslines that steady the body when the world feels unsteady. They move across geographies and tempos, refusing a single origin or destination.
The playlist does not aim to be coherent or complete. It follows intuition, interruption, and collective memory. Some tracks ask you to dance; others ask you to pause, to listen sideways, to feel what lingers. Like our reading groups and pirate radio transmissions, this is an invitation rather than a statement: an opening where voices overlap and authority dissolves.
Listening becomes an act of care and speculation. The dance floor reappears here not as spectacle, but as a temporary commons: a place to practice being together, to imagine futures shaped by rhythm and shared presence.
This playlist accompanies the “Rave into the Future” exhibition I curated at the Asian Art Museum, on view until January 25, which approaches rave culture as a site of resistance, joy, and worldbuilding rather than nostalgia or escape. The exhibition is shaped by feminist, queer, and diasporic perspectives and considers the dance floor as a political and emotional space.
Founded in 2015 in Istanbul, Collective Çukurcuma is a nomadic, transdisciplinary collective formed through reading groups, exhibitions, public programs, and pirate radio experiments, working collaboratively and processually to unsettle singular authorship and open space for shared thinking. \- Naz Cuguoğlu
